Can You Download Videos from Private Twitter (X) Accounts?

In short
No. Videos from protected accounts can't be downloaded by any legitimate tool. Ask the owner for the file instead.
No. XGrokSaver, like any honest downloader, can only save videos from public posts. Here is why that is, and what you can do instead.
Why private videos can't be downloaded
When an account is protected, X only shows its posts to followers the owner has approved. A downloader is not an approved follower. It asks X for the video the same way any anonymous visitor would, and X says no.
Tools that claim to bypass this ask for your login details. That puts your account at risk and may break X's rules and the owner's privacy, so it's best avoided.
How to tell if a post is private
- A lock icon appears next to the account name.
- Opening the post in a private (logged-out) browser window shows a message that the account's posts are protected.
- The downloader reports that the video could not be found.
What you can do instead
- Ask the owner to send you the video file, or to share it from a public post.
- Ask the owner to make the post public for a while.
- If you're an approved follower and only want to watch it, play it in the X app. For a personal keepsake, ask the owner first before saving it any other way.
A note on privacy
People protect their accounts on purpose. Saving or re-sharing a private video without permission can break their trust, and in some places the law as well. When in doubt, ask.
Public videos work fine
If the account is public, paste the post link into the Twitter video downloader and you're done. If it still fails, go through our list of common download problems.
